For the most part, DeBordieu has been blessed with mild temperatures and sunny skies. This has made the outdoor activities we all enjoy even better than usual. The golf course is playing beautifully, the creek is teeming with hungry fish, the tennis courts look great, and as always, the beach and our nature trail are perfect for that early morning stroll. If you have been holding back from making a trip to be here for a few days, wait no longer. I can't promise what the next month will bring, but if it's anything like January, you will be glad you came. By the way, the creek dredging is completed, they did a fabulous job, so access in and out of the boat landing regardless of the tide is no longer an issue. Thanks DCCA......

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='DeBordieu. The Long Range Planning Committee/Beach Committee has continued to work diligently, and after several community forums, has presented its proposal for the beach renourishment project. Most of us realize the benefits a healthy beach continues to have for our oceanfront community regardless of where one resides within DeBordieu. The proposal will be put to vote for the membership very shortly.....labor Day weekend is winding down and thus the active summer season is on the wane. It has been a wonderful summer here "at the beach" and it has been very gratifying to see so many of our owners, their families, and their friends, enjoying all this lovely community has to offer.

We must all remember how much fun it is to be at DeBordieu in the Fall with the great weather and multiple events taking place throughout the area. One of the major attractions is the PAWLEYS ISLAND FESTIVAL OF MUSIC AND ART In its 21st season, the festival begins its three week run on Sunday September 18th. Please check out the website for details. http://www.pawleysmusic.com/

Also, reports are coming in that the golf course is in great shape and the break in the weather is encouraging all aspects of its condition. All golfers need to make some time to be here and take advantage of this time of the year.

With the cooling weather, the Fall fishing is beginning to pick up. The annual migration of Tarpon as they work their way South will soon begin, and along with that will be wonderful inshore fishing for all our favorite species. For those who love the creek, its beauty, and its adventures, the next few months will truly be a delight! Get your family, a child or grandchild, or a bunch of buddies, and come enjoy one of the most beautiful places in America!

DeBordieu 4th of July does it again!

Every year we all look forward to the festivities surrounding the 4th of July and this year was no exception. Speaking of the creek, for those of you who love to fish, the Redfish are on the move, and as water temperatures increase so will the activity. The next month or so will mark some major changes as the fish transition from their winter schools and spread out within the Inlet. The Market's Heating Up! The real estate market is showing signs of improvement and the lovely home below is a prime example of properties presently available. This year has been no exception and we have been blessed with an extraordinary number of ducks and geese feeding and roosting on Bridge Pond. Careful management and the growth of native food sources, particularly Widgeon Grass, has encouraged these waterfowl to spend the winter with us in our Sanctuary Pond. So far this year we have counted over 14 species of ducks enjoying themselves feeding on the grasses and having the extra treat of lots of sweet corn.

The Waterfowl Observation Blind, located on Bridge Pond off Luvan Blvd., has become an extremely popular daily destination for DeBordieu residents to come and enjoy viewing the waterfowl as well as educating themselves and their families about different species of ducks.

Ducks Unlimited has supplied us with identification pamphlets to assist in that endeavor. If you have not yet taken advantage of this community asset, there is still plenty of wintertime ahead and the waterfowl should remain with us for another six weeks or so. It is particularly exciting to visit the blind in the late afternoon (with a warm drink if the day is blustery) to watch the ducks zoom in and out for their last feed of the day, but any time of the day will provide a great experience.

Please feel free to call me if you would like any more information about the work we have been doing to ensure the future of waterfowl within DeBordieu.

What glorious weather we have been having at DeBordieu for the past few weeks!
